Istanbul, Beirut, Baghdad, Cairo. At the end of the 19th century, artists from the former Ottoman Empire are determined to conquer the power of representation. They travel to Europe to learn the new techniques of artistic creation. But this journey will ironically bring them closer to their own sources. In their paintings, they reveal a world of unknown treasures, inventing, on the way, an alternative modernity.
