DOCUMENTARIST 11th ISTANBUL DOCUMENTARY DAYS

Turkey’s independent documentary festival Documentarist is getting ready to celebrate its 11th year from 9th to 14th of June. The festival programme, which will once again bring films from all around the world to Istanbul, will present the subjects of Palestine and the 50th anniversary of 1968 at the forefront of the programme. Alongside screenings of local and international documentaries, there will also be workshops, cinema lectures, presentations and conversations on Animation Documentary, Creative Editing and Filming With Children.
Documentarist’s 11th Istanbul Documentary Days’ honorary guest this year will be the established actor and documentary filmmaker considered to be Palestinian cinema’s father, Mohammad Bakri. His documentaries, “Jenin Jenin” (2002), which made a lot of influence when it was screened, and “Since You Left” (2005) which he filmed about how this film has affected his life, will be screened at the festival and Bakri will give a lecture on the subject ‘Cinema of Resistance and Palestine’. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of 1968, a special category will be presented in which films about the events of the 1960s from many different countries around the world will be screened. In the programme there will be a broad selection of documentaries presented from Turkey, in which there will also be categories such as AnimaDocs, Women Are Present, Focus Country: Sweden, and Queer Documentaries.
Documentarist 11th Istanbul Documentary Days’ film screenings will take place at: Aynalı Geçit (Galatasaray), Chamber of Architects (Karaköy), French Institute (Taksim) and the Kadıköy Theatre (Kadıköy), while the side events will take place at Yapı Kredi Kültür Sanat, BiTiyatro and Tütün Deposu.
